Do I know when I have ‘nothing left in the tank’?

Do I know when I have ‘nothing left in the tank’?

What are we watching this week?

We watched the recent resignation of New Zealand Prime Minister, Jacinda Ardern. She cited being “human” and having “nothing left in the tank” as the reasons for her stepping down.

At I Am Here, we feel Ardern’s resignation highlights burnout. Although she never mentioned “burnout,” at I Am Here, we believe she described it – “I know what this job takes, and I know that I no longer have enough in the tank to do it justice.” Job and work burnout can take a significant toll on our mental health and wellbeing. However, how easy is it to walk away?

Here is a clip of her announcement [2 minute and 24 second watch].

What are we looking at this week?

This week we are looking at the image opposite and knowing when we can no longer say “yes.”

What are the signs to look for when our “tank” is empty? Feeling tired and drained most of the time? Feeling helpless, trapped, or defeated? Detached? Negative? Self-doubting? Overwhelmed? Is it time to change our default response from “yes” to “no”?

Please come and bring us your thoughts and experiences to our social channels so that we can learn from each other, and know how and when it is best to say “no.”

What are we taking note of this week?

This week we are taking note of how to politely and compassionately say “no.” In the interest of our mental health and wellbeing, we at I Am Here like to underline the importance of saying “no.” However, how easy is it to do?

Watch the following clip, which details the art of saying “no” in a productive and affirming way.
